Hello there, everyone!
We’re getting close to another event thus we’ve been busy getting things ready for it (more on that soon!) and, since we’ll be doing manga portraits and it seems people have been curious about our method, we decided to share it with you today.
So let’s begin! (don’t be afraid, we won’t be giving you big walls of text *wink*).
You can click the images to see them bigger!
We chose a random character of ours for this and we begin by making a sketch usually with a coloured lead such as blue or red. We like these two colours a lot since it makes it easier to remove them digitally if we so desire later.
After we’re happy with our sketch, we use a regular B lead to pencil over the red lines and flesh out our drawing completely. We prefer the dark tone of the B lead since it will contrast better with the red and white of the paper. And then, thanks to our image editing software magic, we play with the channels of the image and away with the red and hello black!
This is the perfect method to quickly get your lines done and coloured and with proper care for the black lines, you don’t even need to ink your artwork, saving yourself some time when you’re rushing through deadlines.

We love the expressiveness of pencil lines a lot!
Hope you guys enjoyed this quick demo and let us know if you would be interested in a detailed walk-through/tutorial involving the digital steps to clean the image of the red lines. Just let us know in the comments!
See you next time!
Love this! Love that you’re generous enough to share your methods and give a master-class right here online!
Right – I’m off to explore your site now. ;)

Thank you★★ You’re too kind to our short walkthrough!
We intend to keep doing tutorials like this every now and then, specially if we get feedback on anything specific. Thank you so much for your support, it makes us feel better since sharing is caring and honestly we are happy if this can help!

Sharing is indeed caring – how much does half the contents of your wallet come to. ;)

Hahah, too bad we’re on a budget when it comes to sharing in wallet matters unfortunately.
And sharing it all at once breaks the magic! ;P

;) Thought you might say something like that – and quite rightly!
