A moment for Belgium

Standard

BELGIUM – BRUSSELS 22 MARCH 2016

We don’t define ourselves as Europeans or Portuguese but as citizens of this Earth. However, we have been migrants ourselves (here’s looking at you, Holland and United Kingdom) and we have been generously welcomed in Brussels thanks to FNF’s Europe Animate.

There are no winners when bombs blow up people anywhere in this world. Stay safe everyone, wherever you are.

Edit, Trim, Sync!

Our posting has slowed down lately but it’s for a good reason!
One of the things we’re working on is a Limited 2D animation for the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (check the post about “Animate Europe 2015”, here and about our story “Boundless” here) and it’s been nothing short from exciting for us.

We’ll try to keep up with the updates, even if they’re a bit slow right now!
Stay inspired!★★

Lotte and Korr – Boundless

Korr_Lotte

First encounter of the Human named Lotte (right) and the Vetlian named Korr (left). Shock at first sight?

We already had the opportunity to talk about the wonderful experience we had in Belgium while attending “Europe Animate 2015” but not about the main characters of the comic we participated with. Gentlepeople, meet Lotte and Korr!

Europe in the year 2415, where Humanity has expanded their technology, enabling the contact with other planets.

Lotte is a Human girl, she works for EUPO (European United Post Office) as a mail carrier all around Europe, meeting her daily quota thanks to warp portals. The moment she heard about the exchange between planets, she volunteered at once. Afterall it’s not everyday that you meet an outer space being!

Korr in the other hand was reluctant, but being the son of a Vetlian diplomat carried a responsibility and despite his denial, curiosity had a great part in him accepting this mission.

Together they go through an enlightening experience of discovery and growth towards their differences.

TroubleInParadise

This doesn’t mean it’s an easy task. But as often, hardships bring them closer to find a solution.

We are still working on them both thanks to a new project with Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom and we’re extremely enthusiastic and thrilled about it, we can’t wait to share more with you, but for now we have to keep it a secret…

Stay tuned for updates on these two very soon!!★★

CptEurope_ecSAVE US CAPTAIN EUROPE! CAPTAIN AMERICA GOT NOTHING ON YOU!

On the 14th of October we took flight to Belgium to attend the ceremony of this year’s Animate Europe by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom.

20151015_003511It was an International Competition, with more than 60 people participating and from those 60, 7 finalists emerged and Startwo was on that short list.

Commence panic mode.

The event took place at the prestige Belgium Comic Center, and if you click the image you’ll see on the far right the event’s super mascot, Captain Europe no less!

20151014_192106_Richtone(HDR)Yep, even heroes need to check their phones. Loving the boots, Captain ♥!

Everything happened so fast. Too fast. Maybe because we were so nervous, everything seemed to swirl before us. There can’t be enough praise however for the wonderful people from the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, including Mr. Hans H. Stein, Christina Brunnenkamp and Caroline Margaux Haury. They made us feel right at home and we had a lovely evening!

So, did we win?

20151014_202130Well, no and yes!

First place went to Nicole Knötig and the rest of us finalists received a honourable mention but the Foundation via the wonderful and kind Christina Brunnenkamp, made a request if our sassy characters could be the cover for the event’s book, with the seven comics inside!

20151014_202103Yay! That’s our babies right there!!

So now our little comic is going to go on tour through Europe and this precious book is going to be available for everyone who goes to see the exhibition!

Fu¦êrDieFreiheit--®-photo-BThe finalists, us included, and the event’s organizers! Thank you once again for your kindness! Oh, by the way, we’re the two smiling fiends with blue scarf and yellow shirt ;) – Photo by Bénédicte Maindiaux

We’re leaving out the details of our tale on purpose. We will write a whole new post about our comic soon!

And of course, if you ever go to Belgium, don’t forget to munch down some amazing goffres! Goffres will save the world!

We plan on participating on the next competition! See you again, Europe Animate! Thank you for having us!!
