Sorrow Cypress

As the series we’re working on and off called Sorrow Flowers explores, this illustration called “Sorrow Cypress” speaks for the Cypress Tree- in this case a branch soon to bloom.

With the established meaning of sorrow and sadness, these are popular trees in Cemeteries where they symbolize the mourning and the despair related to losing someone dear to our heart.
Less known is how they are meant to ward evil spirits away and an eastern symbol for life and eternity.

The Cypress branch on its way to bloom, finds the path to bring light to the darkness.

Weaving a wheel of fortune with the thread of destiny, the weaver calls the question: how much is fated and how much is up to one’s responsibility? Would you take chances and turn away from values and beliefs in the excuse of fate?

This is the detail of a previous illustration, made from the inspiration of a common phrase in Portuguese that you can read all about by clicking on the image below!
